What began as a light drizzle quickly escalated into a violent storm that covered entire fields, streets, and roofs with ice — and some of the hailstones were so large they barely fit in the palm of a hand.

Locals described the sound as “like rocks hitting metal” as the hail smashed down with unbelievable force.
