The dispatcher answered calmly. \u201cThis is 911. What\u2019s your emergency?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A little boy whispered, scared and unsure. \u201cMy mom and dad\u2026 they\u2019re in the room. Please come quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAre you safe, sweetheart?\u201d the dispatcher asked. \u201cAre they hurting each other?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo,\u201d the boy said. \u201cBut they\u2019re doing something weird. They said it was a surprise. I don\u2019t know what it is. Can you come?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police took no chances. Within minutes, two patrol cars pulled up outside the house, lights flashing but sirens off. Officers rushed inside and found the boy sitting on the couch, shaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One officer knelt down and asked gently, \u201cWhere are your parents right now?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The boy pointed down the hallway. \u201cIn their room. Please be careful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The officers exchanged looks, hands near their radios, and slowly opened the bedroom door\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Only to find the parents on the bed, tangled in wrapping paper, balloons, and ribbons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They jumped in shock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe were wrapping his birthday presents!\u201d the mom yelled. \u201cWe told him not to come in!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The officer sighed, pinched the bridge of his nose, and said, \u201cNext time\u2026 just lock the door.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
